Reddit Share of Voice: 29× More Mentions, 2% AI Visibility

By Michal Mazurek

One Reddit monitoring tool accumulated 38,017 Reddit mentions in a year. Syften accumulated 1,309. That gave the other tool 96.7% of the Reddit share of voice in this two-brand comparison.

In 2,838 recent AI answers to buyer questions about monitoring tools, the high-volume competitor appeared in 1.9% of answers. Syften appeared in 66.1%.

The brand with more historical Reddit mentions had less visibility in this recent AI sample. Before you use Reddit share of voice to judge an AI visibility campaign, check the buyer answers and the conversations behind them.

I founded both Clare Videre and Syften. This comparison uses our Reddit archive and Clare's AI monitoring data. The other brand is anonymized throughout as “Anonymous competitor.”

What is Reddit share of voice?

Reddit share of voice is your brand's percentage of the mentions received by all brands in a defined comparison. You choose the competitors, communities, time period, and types of mentions to include. Reddit's own brand tracking guide recommends evaluating it alongside sentiment.

Reddit share of voice = your brand's mentions ÷ all tracked brands' mentions × 100

For example, Syften's 1,309 mentions divided by the two brands' combined 39,326 mentions gives it a 3.3% share. The competitor's share is 96.7%. These are shares of this two-brand comparison, not of the entire social listening category.

The formula treats a detailed customer review, a promotional reply, and a complaint about spam equally: each can contribute one mention. Before celebrating an increase, read what people are saying.

The comparison: 38,017 Reddit mentions versus 1,309

We searched archived Reddit post and comment bodies for both brands from October 25, 2025 through October 24, 2026. We then compared that historical footprint with Clare's rolling 30-day AI visibility report retrieved October 25, 2026. The periods differ; this measures the relationship between past volume and current visibility.

Anonymous competitor: 96.7% of the two-brand Reddit mentions and 1.9% AI answer mention rate. Syften: 3.3% of Reddit mentions and 66.1% AI answer mention rate. Reddit covers one year; AI covers the recent 30 days.
Reddit shares divide the two brands' combined annual mentions. AI rates divide all 2,838 answers in the recent sample.

The competitor had about 29 times as many Reddit mentions. Syften appeared in about 34 times as many AI answers.

Almost 3,000 mentions in one week

The competitor's busiest week was May 11–17, 2026: 2,910 matching records, including 2,908 comments. That is roughly 415 comments a day containing its brand phrase. Syften had 40 matching records in that same week. The count does not tell us who wrote those comments, whether they were automated, or how useful they were.

Why the dates matter

The competitor's volume was concentrated earlier in the year. In the latest 30 complete calendar days, September 25–October 24, the archive contained zero matching records for it and 89 for Syften. That calendar window is close to, but does not exactly match, the rolling AI reporting window.

Our stored answers for the selected prompts begin in June, after the May peak. We cannot tell whether the commenting improved AI visibility at the time or whether an effect later faded. This case shows that a large historical Reddit footprint does not guarantee lasting AI visibility; it does not establish the campaign's effect.

What does the AI visibility percentage measure?

AI answer mention rate is the percentage of sampled answers that name a brand. Clare counts each brand at most once per answer. Syften appeared in 1,875 of 2,838 answers, giving it a 66.1% rate. The competitor appeared in 55, giving it 1.9%.

The account has 80 active buyer prompts about Reddit monitoring, keyword alerts, social listening, and related use cases. Examples include:

  • “best Reddit monitoring tool for B2B SaaS”
  • “best Reddit keyword alert tool for startup founders”
  • “best Reddit brand monitoring tool for bootstrapped startups”

The 2,838 answers are repeated runs across the selected prompts, not distinct buyers. The sample combines Gemini and OpenAI model runs; it does not measure Google AI Overviews separately. The results reflect this account's prompt and engine mix, not the whole AI market. Because the questions ask which tools to use, appearances are relevant to recommendation searches, but we have not scored each one as a positive endorsement. An answer can name several brands, so their rates need not add up to 100%.

Why a posting quota can improve the wrong metric

A raw share-of-voice target rewards another mention even when the comment adds no useful information. If that is how you judge the work, a team can meet its target without helping anyone choose a product.

Consider two hypothetical comments. One says, “Try this tool.” The other explains how a customer configured alerts, which communities it covers, where it failed, and what happened after a month of use. Both count as one mention. The second gives a buyer evidence to evaluate.

Broader evidence about brand mentions does not make every mention equally valuable. Ahrefs' analysis of 75,000 brands found strong correlations between branded web mentions and AI visibility, with coefficients of 0.66–0.71 across the systems studied. An association across brands and web sources does not establish that adding repetitive Reddit comments will cause the same result.

Google's guidance for AI Overviews and AI Mode explicitly cautions against seeking inauthentic mentions. It explains that its AI search features depend on both content quality systems and spam detection. That supports being selective about the mentions you pursue; it does not establish why either brand appeared in our sample.

Should you stop participating on Reddit?

No. Clare recorded 58 distinct Reddit threads among the sources for 195 AI answers that mentioned Syften in the same 30-day sample. Reddit was present in the research behind actual answers to these buyer questions.

This gives us something more useful to investigate than a posting total. We can read the threads appearing in source records, check their relevance to the buyer's question, and look for missing or outdated information. A useful contribution might explain a setup, answer a specific limitation, or describe a real result.

Those conversations do not have to be new. Our study of Reddit AI citations found that 58.0% of dated ChatGPT citations linked to threads at least three months old.

Clare records which threads were consulted; it does not identify which comment caused a brand to appear. Showing up in a source thread is therefore an opportunity to help readers, not a guaranteed route into an AI answer.

What is a good Reddit share of voice benchmark?

There is no universal Reddit share of voice target. The percentage changes with your competitor list, communities, date range, and filtering rules. Track a consistent definition over time, and inspect the conversations behind any increase. More customers describing successful use and more people complaining about spam can both raise the same metric.

How we counted

Reddit figures use case-insensitive phrase matches in archived post and comment bodies, with Europe/Warsaw calendar boundaries. Each record counts once per brand; a record naming both counts for each. We searched “syften” and the competitor's full brand phrase, without expanding aliases or separately searching titles.

These are raw text matches, including promotion, criticism, and possible unrelated uses: “syften” is also a Swedish word. The archive may have collection gaps or retain content later changed or deleted. Reddit source counts group links by thread ID, so different comment links in one conversation count as one thread.

How to turn Reddit monitoring into useful work

  1. Fix your comparison. Use the same brands, aliases, communities, dates, and mention types each time. Keep raw counts separate from a filtered view of relevant buying conversations.
  2. Read what changed. Separate customer experience, questions, complaints, and promotion. A spike is a reason to investigate, not automatically a win.
  3. Track buyer answers. Choose category and use-case questions before evaluating results, then repeat the same prompts over time. Our guide to choosing AI visibility prompts explains how to build that set.
  4. Follow the sources. Inspect the Reddit threads, articles, documentation, and comparisons consulted or cited in recorded answers. Look for relevant questions you can answer with specific experience, and disclose your connection when discussing your product.
  5. Check the outcome. Track brand appearances, answer accuracy, qualified visits, and conversions over comparable periods. Those tell you more about whether the work is useful than the number of comments posted.

Clare Videre connects buyer prompts, brand appearances, and recorded sources so you can investigate those gaps. Use Reddit share of voice to spot changes worth reading. Use the actual buyer answers to judge AI visibility.
